Impact of a Pedagogical Coaching Program on Learning Outcomes in Peru
Evaluating the short and long-run effects of a large-scale pedagogical coaching program implemented in rural Peru.
This line of research evaluates the short and long-run effects of a large-scale pedagogical coaching program implemented in rural Peru. Initial quasi-experimental results showed positive impacts on student learning, which motivated a subsequent randomized evaluation confirming these effects. The short-run effects of the randomized study on teaching practices and student learning were published in Quantitative Economics (Vol. 16, No. 1, 2025, pp. 185–233), co-authored with Juan F. Castro, Paul Glewwe, Alexandra Heredia-Mayo, and Ricardo Montero. Ongoing work extends the analysis to medium- and long-term outcomes, showing that initial gains fade over time, highlighting challenges in sustaining impacts at scale.
